Guest speaker – Gary Portnick

Magruders representative welcomes KMCA to their new store.  Gave brief overview of the changes made to the store.  Lighting in parking lot has been upgraded.  New lighting added to roof of store.  Several employees of Giant were retained.  Goals include keeping store clean, keep it well stocked with products and keep community happy.  Magruders advertises (a circular) in the Washington Post Wednesday edition.  No plans for a self-checkout.

Parks committee report:  Park improvements on Claybrook Dr. done.  Lots of new equipment, tennis courts updated, new basketball courts are at the park.  Theres an article about it in the newsletter. 

 

Treasurer report:

$1209.26 in the bank.

 

Secretary report:

76 membership households

 

Election: 

            Candidate for president:  Dr. Gabriel Kengni

            Candidate for vice-president:  Ariel Winter

            Candidate for treasurer:  Marilyn Lawlor

            Candidate for secretary:  Gail Javitt

            Candidate for director:  Jonathan Fink

            Candidate for director:  Michael Oslick

 

All candidates elected by acclamation.  None opposed.

 

New business:

            Question about trash cans not being returned from curb

            Concerns brought up regarding the pedestrian light

            Concern brought forward about increasing Spanish speaking community not getting information about civic association.  Idea was presented to start a committee to facilitate translation of the website and possibly do some community outreach for the Spanish speaking community.
